How to Get Mildew Smell Out of Basement

1 Fix All Leaks

2 Open Windows

3 Run a Dehumidifier

4 White Vinegar

5 Baking Soda

Basement floors are often the source of the unwanted mildew odor, and sprinkling baking soda over the entire surface area can go a long ways in removing the odor.  Using a full box of baking soda apply to the entire surface of the basements floor.  Allow for the baking soda to sit for 24-48 hours before returning to sweep or vacuum the powder up.

6 Kilz

This type of primer works well in combating mildew built up within basement walls. When other methods have failed, apply a coat of Kilz to the walls of the basement to neutralize and cover any remaining mold spore.

7 Lavender Oil

As a finishing touch lavender can add a pleasant scent to your basement.  Measure 6-8 drops of lavender oil within a bowl and add half a cup of water.  Make 2-3 bowls and place them strategically throughout the basement.  For full effect, leave bowls within basement until the formula naturally evaporates.
